What Hari Raya Means to Me

Six simple shots that remind me dearly of Hari Raya season.

Many will attest that the most challenging parts of puasa, or fasting, is the withholding of food and water intake. For adults, this also means not regularly having that much needed caffeine boost through coffee or missing out much desired inhaling sessions of nicotine through cigarette smoking.

I digress.

I still think that waking up to have the meal of sahur at the balefully early hour of 5AM to be the most demanding part of the exercise.

My young nephew pictured here is testament to this statement.

AISH: Salam tempel?? How cute.

JAF: Sama2! Hope you had a wonderful hari raya.

Aku dulu malah nggak ngerti kalau dikasih "duit raya", aku kasih ke orangtuaku.. sekarang udah nggak dikasih, kan udah kuliah.. padahal masih kepingin..
Ohya kalau di sini, "duit raya" disebut "salam tempel", soalnya harus salaman dulu, baru tangannya ditempeli uang, hehehe...

selamat hari raya...

RIGA: Thanks sis, have a nice time in Pekanbaru! Yes, that IS Spiderman - tired after a night of crime fighting.

SUET: Aik, nak secubit ketupat aje? Where got meaning! Tak kenyang babe.

HANNA: Selamat hari raya to you too! I used to play with kucing hitam sparklers too! I've got a little article on bunga api for hari raya from 2003 - if you haven't checked it out. Check out this Link

Selamat Aidil Fitri, Sis!
BTW, is that spiderman at the sahur table?

#13 Suet 8-Oct-2007, 13:28 MYT
Selamat Hari Raya, Fairy! ^_^ I want a pinch of that ketupat you make!

#12 Hanna 8-Oct-2007, 12:59 MYT
When i was a kid, Raya mesti ada bunga api, brand kucing hitam...
Raya would be meaningless without 'bunga api'.. but for kids nowdays Raya means 'duit raya'...
Anyway, Maaf zahir batin to Fay & Family.

LISSY: Yes, my nephew was totally zonked out at the sahur table. I think he would have slept in the plate of rice in front of him if it was there.

SUPERGAY: Nice to hear about your plans to have a complete hari raya this year with your family.

Hey AQI, long time no see. Selamat hari raya to you too!

NULI: My pleasure. Sahur is quite hard to wake to, isn't it?

UNGKE: Ah those were the days ya hehe. My sisters kept a sharp eye on me, so I never got to eat the nicer looking treats.

Selamat lebaran you two!

Fai, when I was a kid, I also played my role as a cookie taster. My mother only allowed me to taste the burnt or ugly cookies as you write, but when she was ‘salah mata’ I took and ate the good ones, hehehe!

Selamat Lebaran Fai!
