MyIndo.com Gets Interviewed by Radio Singapore international

Fairy's interview ...

That one fateful day in July, I received an email from JaF, also known as Rane Hafied. Rane is a radio disc jockey for Radio Singapore international (RSi) who produces exclusively Indonesian content for it. He explained to me that he wanted to feature MyIndo.com on a segment called Pranala (meaning "hyperlink" in Bahasa Indonesia). I was excited about the prospect so I happily agreed to take his call.

Rane called me a few days later and we talked about how I started MyIndo.com and the story behind its existence. We ended up chatting for a good half hour as we were carried away by talks of Malaysian and Indonesian cultural differences, as I often do in these types of encounters with fellow Indonesians. He also bashfully admitted to not having the opportunity to visit Kuala Lumpur yet, despite being located only a few hours away in Singapore for the past 9 years. Rane, you must come visit. ;)

After the telephone recording, Rane took about a week to prepare and edit our conversation as it is only supposed to last 10 minutes on air. Finally on 11 July 2007, I became a humble little audio snippet on RSi. Terima kasih Rane!

You may listen to the interview using the little MP3 widget embedded on this page - just click the play button and the podcast will start streaming. The entire conversation is in Bahasa Malaysia (me) and Bahasa Indonesia (Rane). I intended to transcribe the interview into English, but I think that will be left for another day when I have more leisure time.

Happy listening. :)

I found these links on RSi/Mediacorp website, another version of the interview with Rane as presented by Lendra Putra, complete with transcript. I suspect this was presented for the Malay section of Radio Singapore.

Actually , I also like your country and everything about Malaysia. Fai boleh dong kamu menulis tentang kerajaan di Malaysia yang saya tahu ada hubungan darah/garis keturunan dengan kerajaan di Bugis (one of the biggest etnic in South of Sulawesi). Your vice of Prime Ministry has said that when he visited Makassar last month coz belaiu sendiri adalah keturunan bugis. Demikian fai, nice tobe one of your friend in Jakarta

HANNA: Duh, jadi pressured ni. Saya sebenarnya lebih rindu tulis tentang sambutan Ramadhan di Malaysia.

Dulu saya pernah terfikir nak buat satu perbandingan cara orang Malaysia & Indonesia menyambut Hari Raya... Hmm.

#9 Hanna 21-Sep-2007, 10:59 MYT
I agree with Mr. Dj, Fay harus nulis buku bout Indonesia.. dari kaca mata Fairy memandangkan skrg dah masuk bulan Ramadhan why not write something about cara masyarakat Indonesia menyambut Ramadhan or Lebaran..must be interesting kan...

SUPERGAY: Thanks, dude.

MASINDI: Haha! This is the first time I've been likened to a "Betawi chick!" I think Betawi sounds vastly different from Malay lah.

RANE: No, no, thank YOU. Without you none of this was possible.

And yes yes, original teh botol is the best deh.

Hi RINI, thanks for listening to the podcast. Yes I am now aware that there are other flavors of tea in Indonesia. Personally, I also like the flavors Lychee and Blackcurrent of Fruitea.
