One afternoon while I was bored out of my wits at home trying to figure out what to do with the rest of my day, I logged onto Yahoo Messenger only to find my dear good friend Auriga online. Riga is from Jakarta and is currently deeply immersing herself with graduate studies in Melbourne. I've had the pleasure of knowing her for six years through an Indonesian mIRC chatroom we used to nongkrong at during our early undergrad days. Riga and I enjoy talking about lots of things, particularly Indonesian music (she's a Dewa fan too), our Malay and Javanese/Sundanese language and cultural differences and similarities, world travel, and just about anything under the sun. We converse mainly in English, but sometimes we campak dashes of Indo slang here and there and the occasional Malay twang, so it gets very messy sometimes :).

Well Riga gave me a lesson on busur panah and its usage in one of Dewa's songs, Roman Picisan... Curious? Read on.

After talking about a bunch of stuff, including how Anggun used to sing rock kapak Malay songs :o prior to being the internationally-reknown singer that she is today (she also gave up her Indonesian citizenship for a French one apparently) clarifying that diva Anita Sarawak is actually Singaporean and not Malaysian as we previously thought she was and the Erwin-sang-bassis-dismissal from Dewa (apparently partly caused by some tension between Erwin's wife and Dhani Dewa.) Riga and I got this whole busur panah and lyrics expertise mode and started talking like a group of nerdy scientists gathering around a piece of ugly rock theorizing its atomic and chemical makeup...
	Sis, there is a piece of Dewa's lyrics that bugs me. Everytime I hear it I go like, "That's wrong!!!"
	Eh? Lirik yang mana emang?
	That "busur panah" line from lagu Roman Picisan. Ya kan, yang bagian line pertama lagu itu: Tatap matamu bagai busur panah...yang kau lepaskan ke jantung hatiku
	Oh? So what's your opinion on it?
	Fai, busur panah is the bow... not the arrow. The arrow is anak panah.
	Ooo masa sih?
	Iya. So if you lepas the busur panah, it will just fall to the ground... not melesat.
	I didn't know that. I thought busur was what you Indonesians called arrow hehe. :P
	No. The bow and arrow set is called busur dan anak panah. That's why in Indonesia, the protractor is called busur derajat.
	Ooo...hmmmmmm. How interesting! In Malaysia we just call it protraktor (creativenya).
	Busur is also a mathematical term... I forgot what it is in English. It's like if you have a circle, and you divide it with a single line... An arc, I think. And the only thing shaped close to an arc is the bow, right.. not the arrow.
	I see I see. Jadi tulisan lirik Dewa untuk Roman Picisan salah donk, kalau dilihat dari segi terminologinya.
	That's why... it really bugs me.
	Hmmm, bener juga ya Rig.
	Makanya, gemes kalo denger jadinya...
	Tapi misalnya kalau kita bener-bener lihat dari orang itu lepasin busur panah. Mungkin he meant shooting from the busur, no? (apa sih, nggak jelas hehe)
	Nggak tuh. Kalo orang memanah, dia kan hold busur panahnya, dia ambil anak panah, pull the anak panah back, and release the anak panah from the busur. The bow, or busur, will still be in his left hand (assuming he held the arrow in his right one)...
	Wah bener juga sih. Wahhh Dhani salah ni yeee.
	Makanya. Jadi baris Tatap matamu bagai busur panah yang kau lepaskan ke jantung hatiku... doesn't make sense kan?
	Wait wait, maybeee dia mikir orang itu gak lepasin anah panah tapi bener-bener busurnya! hahah! Wah sakit donk. Orang yang lagi jatcin itu agresif banget ya, hehe... pake baling busur segala!
	Hahaha!
	Jadi orang itu gak lepasin anak panahnya ke orang yang dia cinta, tapi busurnya hehehe.
	Ditimpuk, kali ya....

	Throw the busur to the lover instead of a love arrow! Hahaha!
	Emberrrr, bwahahahha. Itu kali yang dimaksudnya. hehehe. Kocak ya.
	But the song is about love... not about fighting and throwing stuff at each other.
	I guess haha...

So the conclusion of my chat with Riga? The first line of lagu Roman Picisan should be changed from...

Tatap matamu bagai BUSUR panah yang kau lepaskan ke jantung hatiku

to

Tatap matamu bagai ANAK panah yang kau lepaskan ke jantung hatiku
