Kris Dayanti in the Flesh
Over the weekend I was given the chance to have a dialogue with Kris Dayanti (KD), the successful 29-year-old Indonesian singer and actress from Malang.
The opportunity came right before her soundcheck exercise in Suntec City, Convention Hall 602 in Singapore. My "crew" of three and I squeezed into her tiny dressing room and we were instantly smitten by her warm charm.
KD (pronounced Ka-De) was in the country to perform a concert promoting her latest album entitled Cahaya.
Singapore holds a special place in KD's heart, for it was here in 1991 that she became a finalist in Asia Bagus (a talent show popular in the early 1990s).
The Asia Bagus recognition then further propelled her into the glamorous world of stardom, securing her millions of record sales, movie-drama deals, her very own talk show (KD Show), and adoring fans.
KD is not only loved in Indonesia; she enjoys popularity in neighboring Malaysia, Singapore and Brunei as well.
